Kande Pohe is a most famous Maharashtrian breakfast dish. It is very easy to make and take only 15-20 minute. There is a different name for this dish like Pohe, Aloo Paha, Tarri Poha. I really like this dish very much and I usually eat for breakfast or brunch. Pohe is made with flattened or beaten rice i.e. poha. Kande Pohe is most often street food also.

It is prepared in other states of India like Madhya Pradesh, Gujrat, Karnataka, etc. This is a quick meal which makes in minutes and widely preferred in morning breakfast.

There are so many stories hidden in Kande Pohe, Seems in Marathi or Maharashtrian culture its make often while the groom is coming to see bride for the first time for the marriage proposal. One of the most famous movies is in Marathi that named “Kande Pohe”. Thereafter, gravy/tarri pohe is one of the famous dishes specially originate from Nagpur, Maharashtra. Thin curry is called “Tarri” in Maharashtra.

  1. Rinse beaten rice in water 1 or 2 times. Drain beaten rice, soak and keep it aside.
  2. Meanwhile chop the onions, chilies, and potatoes.
  3. Heat oil in the saucepan and add mustard seeds. Let it crackle and then add cumin seeds and asafetida.
  4. Now add chopped potatoes, saute until become golden and crisp.
  5. Then add curry leaves, chilies and stir for 2 seconds and then add chopped onions and green peas.
  6. Cook till onion becomes translucent. Now add turmeric powder, fennel seeds, sugar, and salt. Mix well and cook for 1 minute.
  7. Now its time to add soaked beaten rice. Add and mix well.
  8. Cover it and cook for 5 minutes. Stir in between.
  9. Kande Pohe is ready to serve. Garnish with roasted peanut and chopped coriander.
  10. Enjoy hot Kande Pohe with a lemon slice.
Recipe Notes
  1. You can garnish with the Shev and desiccated coconut.
  2. Serve hot for better taste.
  3. Instead of roasting peanut you can add before potatoes to fry in the same saucepan.

Cauliflower Stuffing
  1. Heat oil in a pan; add ginger garlic paste and sauté.
  2. Now add chopped green chili and stir.
  3. Then add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder and sauté.
  4. Now quickly add grated cauliflower mix it well.
  5. Further, add chat masala and salt as per taste sauté till 5-6 minutes.
  6. Now add chopped coriander and keep it aside. Stuffing is ready.
Paratha Dough
  1. In mixing bowl take 2 cups of wheat flour.
  2. Add ½ teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon oil and mix well.
  3. Then add water little by little and knead well.
  4. Make a soft dough. Cover it and keep aside for 30 minutes.
Rolling Parathas
  1. Take a small portion of dough, dust some wheat flour on rolling board.
  2. And roll it around 4-5 inch diameter with the help of rolling pin.
  3. Now take cauliflower stuffing and place it in center of chapatti.
  4. Take edges and start plating and bring in the center.
  5. Now press the center and dust some flour and roll it like chapatti size.
Roasting Parathas
  1. Heat the griddle over the medium-high flame.
  2. Place the rolled cauliflower paratha over it.
  3. Flip the paratha to other side.
  4. Now apply some butter or ghee.
  5. Again flip the paratha and apply some ghee or butter to another side.
  6. Press in between so that paratha can cook all the sides.
  7. Repeat the same process for all parathas.
  8. Now Cauliflower Paratha is ready to serve. Enjoy hot with Curd, Pickle or Sauce.
Recipe Notes

When you are making stuffing saute all spices on the low flame so that the spices should not burn.

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a saucepan. When oil turns hot, add 2-3 cups of chopped cabbage in it.
  2. Give a nice stir and cover it with lid. Side by side you can do cuttings of onions, tomato, green chili and ginger garlic paste.
  3. Allow cooking cabbage 70% done. Remove cabbage from the saucepan and keep it aside.
  4. In the same saucepan add 1 tablespoon oil and add ½ teaspoon of mustard seeds. Let it crackled. Add cumin seeds stir.
  5. Add ginger garlic paste and stir well. Add sliced green chili.
  6. Now add onion and cook until becoming translucent.
  7. Then add chopped tomatoes. Cook it till become soft.
  8. Add all spices, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and salt and mix it well.
  9. Add green peas and cook it for 1-2 minute. If you are taking frozen green peas, no need to cook it much.
  10. Lastly, add cabbage which we have done shallow fry earlier. Mix it well and cover it.
  11. Cook it for 2 minutes or till cabbage is cooked.
  12. Cabbage Curry is ready to serve.Garnish with some chopped coriander.
  13. Enjoy with chapatti or rice. Really it tastes so nice. Please try it once.
